California: They remove all the deadwood & now they have to kill woodpeckers that are “damaging” their live trees?

Shooting the acorn woodpeckers in Rossmoor isn’t a solution, it is a
symptom of something wrong with the oak woodland habitat surrounding
the homeowners. The homeowners have the oak woodland manicured, pruned and managed as if it were a planted garden. Everything dead is removed from the oak woodland, including the dead granary trees (where acorn woodpeckers drill holes and stash their acorns) so the woodland looks
“nice and pristine” like a garden. Then they don’t understand why they
are having problems with the native wildlife since they’ve done such a
good job of manicuring their home.

The most important thing to
remember in all of this is “Mother Nature always bats last!” because
even if they kill all the acorn woodpeckers, since it’s an oak
woodland, the woodpeckers eventually will return. And since there
won’t be a granary tree because of their management of the oak
woodland, once again the sides of houses will be used as a granary. So
what have you accomplished? “Managing nature” is only a short-term
solution. Working with nature is a sustainable solution. Which
solution would you want to invest your time, energy and money in?
