Texas: Update on RIP: Ned Fritz

Back in 1995 & ’96 I toured N. California giving presentations about
illegal salvage logging in the US Pacific Northwest. One of my most
favorite memories of it all were these huge water color posters that
“Save America’s Forest” mailed me for free! I’d give away those
posters to people for free sometimes and it was like a magic wand! So
many time they’d get out there wallet and talk about framing it and
they’d give me $20-$40 right away. If it wasn’t for those posters from
Save America’s forest I’d of been unable to tour! So if you had
anything to do with that Ned: Thanks! And to further my respects
here’s another message about you.

Dear Council, I learned that Ned Fritz, one of the forefathers of our
movement, one of the great inspirations that lead to Heartwood, and
one of our all time heros, has passed away. Carl Ross, who is trying
to carry Ned’s legacy with his Save America’s Forests Act told me and
sent me this.

It was Ned’s tour across the U.S. in I believe 85 or 86 documenting
clearcuts on national forests and selective logging practices on
private lands which lead to his second book, and lead to me seeing
Andy Mahler’s name for the first time, as he and I were both listed as
contacts for his itenerary in Illinois and Indiana. He did write
about his time with us in his book, he came to several of our
litigation conferences, organized and came to the first national
forest Pow Wow at the Lazy Black Bear, and served as an ever present
leader in our movement. I loved Ned and will always feel indebted to
him for his guidance.
