USA: EPIC wins as best forest defender in the court room
The Environmental Protection Information Center (EPIC) ranked #1 in
success for groups who sued to protect public lands from the US Forest
Service. EPIC won 11 out of 17 cases over a 16-year period, according
to the The Journal of Forestry. The stats were revealed in an article
called “Litigants’ Characteristics and Outcomes in US Forest Service
Land-Management Cases 1989 to 2005.”

But that doesn’t mean EPIC filed the most suits — that distinction
goes to the Sierra Club who filed 101 cases in the same time period.
Guess that means EPIC is conservative. The principle investigator
behind the study, Robert Malmsheimer, landed a whopping $199,200 in
USFS grant money for his analysis. Maybe it would be cheaper to
simply comply with the law.
