California: Government official busted for illegal logging!
A state forester who works locally has had his license revoked for
allegedly cutting down 73 trees at the Soquel Demonstration State
Forest without approval. The California State Board of Forestry and
Fire Protection found that Edgar Orre failed to comply with California
Environmental Quality Act when he held a chain saw class in 2005 and
felled dozens of conifers and hardwood trees. More trees were removed
on other occasions, according to the state board. Cutting down trees
requires an environmental review, which had not been performed. Orre’s
license to practice forestry in California was suspended by the board
for six months on Jan. 6.
In addition, Orre was put on probation for
three years and will be required to work under the supervision of
another forester during this time. Orre continues to work as the
assistant forest manager at the demonstration forest. The head
forester, Thomas Suftin, was sent a letter of concern by the board,
but no punitive measure was taken against him.
