USA: Defend the Roadless… Write Obama a letter!
Out of 58.5 million acres of roadless land across the country,
President George W. Bush and his allies in the logging industry were
only able to build 7 miles of new roads and damage 535 acres of
roadless land. Eight years ago they vowed to do away with the Roadless
Rule, and thanks to your continued dedication to protecting pristine
backcountry from harmful development, the vast majority of our
roadless wildlands remain just that-roadless. Take action to ensure
that our defense of the Roadless Rule is not short-lived. While we
have been successful in defending the vast majority of our roadless
territory from harmful, on-the-ground activities like mining and
logging, these pristine areas are under greater threat than at any
time during the last eight years. Due to a legal back and forth,
currently only 45% of the land originally included in the Roadless
Rule remains safeguarded from harmful activities. The good news is
that the Rule remains as popular as ever and our elected leaders know
it.

President-elect Barack Obama has expressed interest in reinstating
the 2001 Roadless Rule and making sure that the last, best places in
our National Forests are protected.Write to President Obama today and
tell him to waste no time in reinstating the Roadless Rule as a
commonsense first step in preserving the lands we all cherish. Thanks
for your support in keeping Oregon a special (and roadless) place. For
roadless wildlands, Sean Stevens Communications Associate Oregon Wild
