New Hampshire: 431 acres saved on pine Mountain
A 431-acre reservation near Pine Mountain has been sold to the Society
for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. The land features
woodlands with marketable timber and fertile soil marked by blueberry
barrens.
It’s close to 8,900 protected acres in the 32,000-acre
Belknap Mountain Range Conservation Coalition, in which the Forest
Society participates. The property, which was owned by Mary Jane Morse
Greenwood, had been in her family for 135 years. The reservation is
crossed by many trails, 1 of which leads to a walk to the open summit
of Pine Mountain, with sweeping views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the
Belknap Mountain Range. Information from: New Hampshire Union Leader,
