Gypsy & Peaceman put up the Love Pod treesit in Bell Creek ('97)

Over the years there’s been a great deal of words written about forest defense treesitters in the Pacific Northwest.

From the ones still in the woods, the ones still researching the logging papers, to the ones that found fame and notoriety, to the ones who got hard time in jail, to others who have lost there lives entirely… WE WILL REMEMBER THE TREESITTERS!

And even more lasting than all the treesitters are the trees themselves…  And It’s very rare that a treesitter saves the tree they sit in! It’s rarer still that tressitters are given respect by their timber company when the treesit ends. Yet, In August this rarest of rare occured in Humboldt county, CA..

As always there’s been many words written about what happened that ended the treesits in Humboldt coutnty, but Perhaps you’d prefer to listen to what happened instead? There’s a great interview on KBOO radio which can heard here:

And if you really do prefer words you’ll want to read the most in depth story here: North Coast Journal Article about Treesits (Aug08) Journalist Hiedi Walters wrote the story and she’s top-notch. I was interviewed by her for another story last fall about similar issues. So this time around she interviewed me for over an hour and not only did I get lots of ink in the current story, but maybe a future in-depth story about what “Community Integrated forestry” in Humboldt county looks like now, as well as what it can look like in the future.

Stay tuned for lots more announcements and analysis on this subject!
